It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

On the last day of April, a good friend of mine and I jumped in his truck and headed west to North Dakota to hunt snow geese. Following a marathon 14- hour scouting adventure that traversed highways and back roads from the Manitoba to the South Dakota borders and all places in between, we fairly surmised that the snow goose migration had come and gone.

First Community Credit Union raises $3,000 for Alzheimers Association

First Community Credit Union (FCCU) recently held fundraisers for their 2022 first quarter charity, senior support. Employees of FCCU choose a different organization each quarter to support by raising money and awareness. FCCU was able to raise $3000 to be given to benefit local senior centers as well as the Minnesota-North Dakota Alzheimer’s Association Chapter, for Alzheimer’s care, support, research, awareness and advocacy.

More than 800 Minnesota State University Moorhead students to graduate May 13

Minnesota State University Moorhead will award degrees to more than 800 students during its spring commencement program Friday, May 13 in the university’s Nemzek Fieldhouse. This includes more than 185 graduate students and nearly 30 past graduates who are participating in the live commencement.

Altoz, Inc. holds groundbreaking ceremony in Red Lake Falls

Altoz, Inc. broke ground recently on its new 75,000 square foot facility which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. This is the first phase of a multi-phase expansion project in Red Lake Falls, MN that brings the combined building space to over 412,500 square feet between the Red Lake Falls and Greenbush, MN locations.

Parks & Rec: Registration open for Jr. and Sr. Legion baseball

Crookston Parks and Recreation has registration open for Jr. and Sr. legion baseball for players born January 1st of 2003 – 2009. To register please go to https://www.crookston.mn.us/ns/ fun and click on the register now link. Players must complete a legion baseball player form.

Chad Markuson named MSUM athletic director

Minnesota State University Moorhead hired a familiar name to lead MSUM’s Dragon Athletics. Chad Markuson, who has served as interim athletic director since last spring, has been named the Dragons new athletic director. He will transition into the permanent role beginning May 2, 2022.
