UMN Crookston hands out distinguished awards at annual banquet

The University of Minnesota Crookston held their annual Student Awards Program, a celebration of student service, leadership, and academic athletic achievement, Thursday, April 28 in Bede Ballroom. Marah Mcdougal, a marketing major from Minneapolis, Minn., and Elaina Knott, an agricultural education major from Thief River Falls, Minn., were named as the UMN Crookston Students of the Year.

Migratory Bird Program May 14th at Fertile Nature Center

Spring migration is a fascinating time to observe not only birds returning to nest in our area but birds that are also passing through to nesting territories further north. Find out which birds are passing through and which ones are back to nest in our area at a Migratory Bird program on Saturday, May 14th at 10:00 a.m. at the Fertile Nature Center. Ornithologist Dr. Jeff Bell and Master Naturalist Laura Bell will share their extensive birding knowledge and experience.

Rosemary Erickson Johnsen, Ph.D., Selected to Lead the Division of Business, Arts, and Education at UMN Crookston

Rosemary Erickson Johnsen, Ph.D., was selected to lead the Business, Arts, and Education Division at the University of Minnesota Crookston. She replaces Mark Huglen, Ph.D., who has been serving as acting head of the Division of Business, Arts, and Education since August 2021. Pending faculty and Board approval, Erickson Johnsen joins the Division at the rank of tenured full professor. She will begin her duties July 1, 2022.

University of Minnesota Extension Center for Family Development educators and partners are facilitating webinars, providing information and resources for families and those who serve families to make informed decisions leading to greater health, resilience, and well-being. All webinars are virtual and free.

Crookston Police Department accident report

An accident was reported on May 3 at 12:24 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and 3rd Street when a 2009 Dodge Journey, driven by Taylor Johnson of Crookston, was driving south on North Main in the middle lane and attempted to turn east onto 3rd Street colliding with a 2000 Jaguar, driven by David Macierzynski of Crookston. As a result, the Dodge Journey spun out and struck a 2017 Dodge Ram, driven by Austin Richter of Fargo, ND, which was stopped at 3rd Street and North Main.

Dean G. Schenkey, 78, Fertile, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Riverview Care Center in Crookston.

Kenneth and Patricia Johannson

A Memorial Service celebrating the lives of Kenneth and Patricia Johannson will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Ken passed away on November 14, 2021 and Pat on January 14, 2022. Visitation with their family will be for one hour prior to the service which will be livestreamed by going to either of their web pages at www.stenshoelhouske.com and clicking on the prompt to view. Inurnments will take place in the Oakdale Cemetery Columbarium.

CHS Industrial Tech students visit Arctic Cat

Crookston High School Industrial Tech students visited Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls last week for a tour. Teacher Travis Oliver shared that 24 students went on the visit that included a tour of the factory with all different stations throughout.
