It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Girls’ Golf Ties for Fourth at Park Rapids

The Crookston Pirate girls’ golf team followed the boys’ team to Park Rapids this morning, faring better with their fourth-place finish. They tied with Roseau at 422, while Fergus Falls won the event with a team score of 340.

Pirate Softball Struggles Against East Polk

The Crookston softball team faced tough competition in East Polk, as the Pirates offense was unable to put up a single run in either game. Game One The Northstars run ruled the Pirates in six innings, 11-0.

Track Competes in True Team Section Meet

The Crookston Pirate boys’ and girls’ track and field teams traveled to Warren, MN for the True Team Section 8A meet on Tuesday, May 10. Girls’ Track and Field The girls’ team finished 3rd of 14 teams behind Ada-Borup West and West Marshall.

Boys’ Golf Stays Busy

The Crookston Pirates boys’ golf team participated in two meets in a two-day span, finishing 13th and 9th, respectively. Bemidji Invitational On Monday, the team traveled to Bemidji yet again.

Pirates Blank Spuds

The Crookston Pirate boys’ tennis team improved upon their 6-1 victory over Moorhead from a week previous, as they won 7-0 on Tuesday, May 10. There was only one lineup change from their last meeting: George French replaced Sam Widseth at No.
