It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Open Bottle Recycling

Question: Can you get an open container violation if you are on your way to a recycling center with empty bottles, cans, plastics, etc.? This assumes that some of the contents being recycled are opened/ empty beer, wine and liquor containers? I am assuming that the driver has not been consuming any alcohol but simply going to recycle the cans, bottles and plastic containers?

Crookston School District Referendum Communication

As you have no doubt heard, we are embarking on a referendum that asks our voters whether or not we should build a multi-use facility with a new track and turf football field that can be used for softball and soccer as well. The price tag on this project is 3.9 million dollars of which 36% would be paid by the state in the form of a credit on Ag Land through a program called Ag2School. While this work has been going on for quite some time, I wanted to go through this process with you so that you understand the thought process that has led to this referendum.

The Crookston Pirates wrestlers’ team season comes to an end with a loss to Frazee in a tiebreaker. At the end of the match, both teams had 34 points.

Golden Eagles ride arm of Stuck for two more wins

The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team got two complete games from Evie Stuck, as the Golden Eagles went 2-1 in their second weekend in Minot. To cap the weekend, the Golden Eagles held off Montana State University Billings for a 6-4 win.
