UMN Crookston Alumni Relations: A story of two young angels

Trista Curry 2012 graduate in applied studies and Bryan Dean 2010 graduate in business management are not strangers to crisis, grief, unfathomable heartache, or honor. Trista and Bryan met at UMN Crookston as students and built their family together.

Prescribed burning at Rydell and Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuges

Each spring, columns of smoke can be seen across the landscape in northwest Minnesota. These smoke columns are the result of landowners burning drainage ditches, farmers and ranchers burning agricultural stubble, pastures, and piles of brush and trees. Another originator of these spring “smokes” across the landscape is the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The carefully planned prescribed burns that are conducted on state and federal lands are needed to maintain critical habitats for both game and non-game species found in northwest Minnesota.

CHS Jr. High Knowledge Bowl teams place 2nd and 9th at TRF meet

The Crookston Junior High Knowledge Bowl teams recently competed in the Region 1 & 2 Knowledge Bowl meet in Thief River Falls and brought home some hardware. "There were 33 teams competing and Crookston had a very successful day with Crookston Blue placing second overall and Crookston Gold placing 9th overall," said CHS English teacher Susan Wagner.

Crookston ECI ‘Little House of Books’ free for the community

The Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) is proud to share the Little House of Books with the community. These free, public libraries focus on the importance of literacy for young children and build community using the concept of ‘take a book, leave a book”.

Marlene Yvonne Tommerdahl, 75, of Hendrum passed away under hospice care on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, N.D. Marlene was born on March 26, 1947, to Earl and Vivian (Berg) Nelson in Mentor. She grew up and attended school in Mentor.
