State Legislature approves Avian Influenza response funding

The Minnesota legislature has approved use of the agricultural emergency account to help address the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) response in Minnesota. The amendment received near unanimous support in both the senate and house.

Crookston Community Pool closed until April 19

The Crookston Parks and Recreation Department will be extending the closure of the Crookston Community Pool as they recently found more issues that need to be resolved for the public’s safety. They plan to reopen the pool on April 19, 2022.

UMN Crookston hosts audience-involved murder mystery event

The University of Minnesota Crookston Music-Theater Department presented “Who Murdered My Sweetheart”, written and directed by Paul Warshauer, on April 8 and April 9 in Kiehle Auditorium. Polk County to offer Skywarn Storm Spotter training classes

Polk County Emergency Management, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, will conduct Skywarn Storm Spotter training classes. A class in Crookston will be held April 20 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Crookston in Kiehle Auditorium.

Crookston Public Library to offer presentation on the Art of Journaling April 20

Those interested in exploring the art of journaling are invited to spark their creativity and inspiration with a presentation on April 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. The presentation will cover different types of journals, types of media to use, and share ideas for inspiration. Participants will start their own journals to bring home with them to finish. Red Lake County: Man arrested for felony burglary after guns stolen from hardware store

On the morning of April 5, 2022, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Hardware Hank at the Mall in Red Lake Falls that their store had been broken into sometime overnight. Red Lake County law enforcement responded to the business and conducted an initial investigation which revealed that several handguns had been stolen.

NDSU faculty member works to find breakthrough cancer treatment

Dali Sun, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at NDSU, was awarded nearly $400,000 from the National Institutes of Health to study new ways to find and treat pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of the disease.
