United Way announces cancellation of June 23 golf tournament

The United Way of Crookston regretfully announces the cancellation of the golf tournament scheduled for June 23. A variety of unforeseen circumstances has caused us to make this tough decision. After being gone for the past two years, we wanted to come back bigger and better than ever and we were unable to put together the kind of event we wanted. We always want to make sure we are hosting the best events for our cause and for all participants so we will double our efforts and come roaring back next year.

Gonvick to host traveling Vietnam Veterans Wall July 7-10

Clearwater County Veterans Service Office has announced the county will host the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Wall July 7-10 in Gonvick. Veterans Service Officer Logan LeClair told local media the wall will be in Gonvick at the fire hall on the north side of town.

LaVonne Jobe Hinkley, 85, of Batesville, Ark., and an Eldred native, passed away January 7, 2022, at the Woodlawn Heights Nursing Center in Batesville. LaVonne was born on July 29, 1936, in Eldred to Henry and Irene (Wachter) Jobe.

Janice Medona Bakken, 84, died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 5, 2022 surrounded by her family who loved her so much. She was born on May 22, 1938 to Theodore and Eva (Blackstad) Knutson in Crookston.

On June 16, 2022 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a reported scam from a citizen of Polk County. The scammer contacted the citizen on the phone and the caller ID showed 218-281-0431 which is the number for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Joe's Diner in Crookston recently announced on social media it will be closed through the summer and will reopen Labor Day due to multiple reasons such as staffing, inflation, food trucks and summer weather drawing people to the lake.
