It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Volleyball Drops Three Sets to Ada in Home Opener

The Crookston Pirate volleyball team hosted the Ada Cougars in their home opener on Thursday, September 1, falling in three sets. Set One Emilee Tate scored the first point for the Pirates, making it 1-3 Ada.

Osakis Nearly Doubles Crookston’s Yardage in Season Opener

The Crookston Pirate football team dropped its season opener to Osakis on Thursday, September 1 despite two rushing touchdowns from Ethan Boll. The Silverstreaks jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Drew Imdieke and 31-yard touchdown reception by Wyatt Sell.

Swimming Falls in Dual with Thief River Falls

The Fosston-Bagley- Crookston Seal coop hosted Thief River Falls in its first home meet of the season on Thursday, September 1. The Prowlers’ varsity and junior varsity teams came out on top 68-26 and 43-25, respectively.

Uber, Hilliard Lead Minnesota Crookston Men’s, Women’s XC

The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s cross country team placed 24th out of 27 collegiate teams, while the women's cross country team finished 23rd out of 26 teams at the Augustana Twilight Friday, September 2 at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Minnesota Crookston Soccer Shut Out in Two Games

The University of Minnesota Crookston women's soccer team fell to Michigan Tech University 0-1 and Northern Michigan University 0-6 after their season-opening win against Waldorf. Game One UMC hung with Michigan Technological University for 90 minutes, but fell 1-0 to the Huskies on Friday, September 2 at Sherman Field in Houghton, Mich.

Minnesota Crookston Volleyball Picks Up First Win in Kenosha, WI

The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team traveled to Kenosha, WI for the Hampton Inn Invitational, where they collected their first win of the season. Match One The Golden Eagles fell in three sets to McKendree University, by no less than eight points each set.
