CHS Orchestra earns recognition

On Wednesday, April 19, the CHS Concert Orchestra traveled to Alexandria, Minn., where they competed in Region 8AA Orchestra Solo and Ensemble Contest. Crookston had nine entries perform solo and small ensemble pieces for judges, which were then scored out of 40 based on factors such as tone quality, intonation, rhythm, balance/blend, technique, interpretation/musicianship and bowings.

Lindgren named as a Champion for Young Children

The Crookston Early Childhood Initiative has named Jeannie Lindgren as a Champion for Young Children for the positive impact she has had on young children and their families in our community for many years!

Polk County observes Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is child abuse prevention month. Polk County Social Services along with Polk County Victim Services put together 239 pinwheels that represent the number of families affected by child protection concerns in 2022. Minnesota Crookston Men’s Golf Places Seventh at NSIC Championship

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s golf team finished seventh out of 10 teams at the 2023 NSIC Men’s Golf Championship at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. The Golden Eagles were guided by Layton Bartley (So., Fargo, N.D.), who finished in the Top 15 for the second-straight season. Bartley placed tied for 14th with scores of 76, 73, and 78.

Minnesota Crookston Baseball Walks Off with Monday Sweep Against Northern State

The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team picked up a pair of wins in pitcher’s duals Monday, April 24 over Northern State University. The Golden Eagles got strong pitching performances from Jake Dykhoff (R-Sr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.), Jake Osowski (R-Jr., RHP, East Grand Forks, Minn.), and Conner Richardson (R-Sr., RHP Grand Forks, N.D.). In the second game, UMN Crookston picked up a 2-1 win in the first game guided by a home run from Josh Dykhoff (Fr., 1B/RHP, Wadena, Minn.). In the second game, Mitch Goodwin (Jr., SS, Prior Lake, Minn.) hit a walk-off double to give the Golden Eagles their program-record 29th victory.

The word biology means, simply, the study of life. Whereas the study of birds, which comes from the late 16th-century Latin word, “ornithologia”, means “bird science”. Indeed, with over 9,600 species found throughout the world, there are plenty of birds to study and observe.
