It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Jake Dykhoff Named to 2023 All-NSIC Tournament Team

MANDAN, N.D. - University of Minnesota Crookston pitcher Jake Dykhoff (R-Sr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.) wrapped up his heralded career as a Golden Eagle by being named to the 2023 NSIC All-Tournament Team.

Crookston High School students Teagen and Tatum Lubinski helped the Polk County Historical Society put down roots. On May 13, the brothers dug holes for planting trees on the Crookston museum grounds. PCHS buildings and grounds chairman Francis LaPlante planted 15 American plum trees east of the museum.

Save Your Vision month at Opticare-Crookston Vision Associates

As part of Save Your Vision month in March, Highland Elementary second graders participated in a writing contest sponsored by OPTICARE - Crookston Vision Associates. The goal of the contest was to make children aware of good vision for their learning and life activities.

Scholarship Established in memory of Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo

The family and friends of Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo have established the Katie Brommenschenkel Vilmo Scholarship Fund, a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation. The scholarship will support students from school districts in NMF’s service region as well as Hillsboro, North Dakota.

Sundquist earns IDEA award

Tommy Sundquist was recently selected as the Improve Dee Excellence Award (IDEA) winner for the 1st quarter, 2023. Sundquist works in the casting department at Dee Manufacturing and won the award for his suggestion to improve pouring ladle longevity. Sundquist has been an employee at Dee Manufacturing for four months and is a resident of Crookston.
