It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Museum opening planned

A Season Opener celebration at the Polk County Historical museum in Crookston will be from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday. Everybody is welcome to visit the renovated museum and enjoy free wine and snacks provided by the Irishman’s Shanty and Polk County Historical Society board members.

ALTRU FAMILYYMCATO HOST NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY ON MAY 30

The Altru Family YMCA is hosting neighborhood community BLOCK PARTY in the YMCA parking lot on Thursday, May 30, between 4:30 and 6:30 pm. Games, music, food and door prizes will be available outdoors and guests are invited to open gym indoors.

RiverView Auxiliary Announces Scholarship recipient

Traditionally, the RiverView Auxiliary Board of Directors awards a $500 scholarship to a RiverView employee interested in furthering their education and commitment to healthcare. A committee of Auxilians has chosen the scholarship recipient based on essay answers. It has announced Kailee Magsam as this year’s winner.

Lake Agassiz Regional Library to Close May 29 for Memorial Day

All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Presidents’ Day, with regular hours of operation resuming Tuesday, May 30. LARL’s branch libraries are located in Ada, Bagley, Barnesville, Breckenridge, Climax, Crookston, Detroit Lakes, Fertile, Fosston, Hawley, Mahnomen, McIntosh and Moorhead.

Josh Lunak Named NSIC Coach of the Year; Schneider Named All-NSIC First Team

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - University of Minnesota Crookston tennis coach Josh Lunak was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year as released Tuesday, May 16 by the conference office. In addition, Madeleine Schneider (Jr., Gartringen, Germany) was selected All-NSIC First Team for singles.
