Mother pleads with School Board

During the open forum portion of the Crookston School Board meeting this week, a mother of three pleaded with the board to allow online learning for her children for the remainder of the school year after detailing racist comments from other students and ignored issues at the high school. The mother, Mildred, described herself as a person of color and said her kids do not feel safe at CHS.

Bowman picks up career win 125 at Prowler Invite

The Crookston Pirate wrestling team won its twelfth dual with a 45-24 victory over Fosston on Thursday, January 20 and placed third out of nine teams in the Prowler Invite on Saturday, January 22. At the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls, eight Pirate wrestlers finished in the top three of their weight classes, including Ethan Bowman who racked up his 125th career win.

The Crookston Pirate boys’ hockey team split results this week, as they picked up their second win against Bagley 5-4 but lost to Little Falls 0-10. On Saturday, the Flyers got off to a quick start, scoring 25 seconds into the game.

Boys’ basketball unable to put together complete game

The Crookston Pirates boys’ basketball team put up 10 strong, opening minutes against Red Lake County (RLC) but fell by a final score of 53-85. “We are going to have to look at the game and see if we can figure it out,” head coach Greg Garmen said of Crookston’s unfortunate pattern as of late.

Women’s basketball falls in two road contests

The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball team dropped a pair of road conference games against Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) and Sioux Falls. The Golden Eagles fell by 10 to the Cougars on Saturday, 60-70.
