Reader feels worried about son’s future

Dear Amy: My 40-year-old son, “James” has had many bright, beautiful, and intelligent girlfriends. He has been engaged and ended various relationships throughout his adult years. James is currently in an on/off relationship (for the past five years) with no marriage plans in sight. His father and I have been amicably divorced for decades. My overall concern is that my son will never marry or find someone even for companionship.

Fisher robotics team advances to state competition

The Fisher School Robotics Team is coming off what has become the norm for the program, another successful season. After a first-place score in the “skills” portion of a recent competition in Valley City, North Dakota, the Arctic Knights recently learned that they have once again advanced to the state robotics competition. The state event will begin in St. Cloud on Thursday, March 3. The Polar Knights, Fisher School’s elementary robotics team, has also earned a trip to the state competition.

UND Dean, President lists and winter grads

The University of North Dakota’s Office of the Registrar recently issued its fall semester 2021 Dean’s List, President’s Roll of Honor and names of winter commencement graduates. Crookston area students recognized include:

St. Paul’s Lutheran hosting U of Jamestown choir

"Take a break from the wind, cold and snow and warm your heart with the choral music of the University of Jamestown Concert Choir." The University of Jamestown Concert Choir will be touring Northwest Minnesota and will be performing at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crookston, MN on Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m.

UMN Crookston Blood Drive brings 33 volunteers

The University of Minnesota Crookston hosted a blood drive February 7 with Vitalant at the university which helped collect a total of 31 units of blood products for patients in need. A total of 33 individuals volunteered to donate blood and 27 individuals were able to successfully donate. A total of five donors also came forward to donate Power Red Cells (2RBC) which collects two units of red blood cells while returning platelets, plasma and a saline solution back to the donor. There were 13 people who volunteered for the first time.

Hospice offers free ‘Loss of a Child: Honoring a Parent’s Grief’ class

Hospice of the Red River Valley offers monthly grief support classes and workshops in 2022. Most classes are held virtually with select classes offered in person only. All classes are free and open to the community. Our grief classes offer attendees a safe, supportive environment for learning about their grief and talking with others who have experienced a loss through death.

Rotary Student of the Month fundraiser March 6

Crookston Rotary Club, in partnership with the Crookston Masonic Lodge #141, will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser Sunday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lodge at 112 West Robert Street downtown. Freewill donations will be accepted and proceeds go to the Rotary's Student of the Month scholarship program that benefits both Crookston High School and University of Minnesota Crookston students.

Crookston Rotary Club celebrates 100 years

Crookston Rotary Club celebrated 100 years of service at a special meeting with the Crookston Lions Club and Crookston Kiwanis Pioneer 100s Club as guests on February 23, 2022 at the Crookston Inn. It was that date exactly 100 years ago that the Crookston Rotary Club was formed.
