Curtis Ray Hoppe

Curtis Ray Hoppe, 76, of Crookston, MN, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, May 24, 2022, with his loving family at his side and while under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. The memorial service for Curt will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Steve Bohler, officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm, with a prayer service and the sharing of memories at 7 pm, and will continue at the Church for one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. One Sunday afternoon, a cranky grandfather was visiting his family. As he lay down to take a nap, his mischievous grandson decided to have a little fun by putting Limburger cheese on Grandpa's mustache. Soon, Grandpa awoke with a snort and charged out of the bedroom saying, “This room stinks.” Through the house he went, finding every room smelling the same. Desperately he made his way outside only to find that “The whole world stinks!”

School Board votes to move forward with Highland, CHS remodels

After deliberation that carried over from a regular board meeting to a special meeting, the Crookston School Board decided to move forward with the remodels for Highland Elementary and the high school using $4 million in federal funds and looking into the district's other unassigned funds or borrowing to offset the additional costs. The board approved a $4.49 million bid from Bradbury Stamm Construction of St. Cloud for the remodels which was greater than a previous bid of $3.4 million due to inflation.

On the June 29, 2022 Strategic Farming: Field Notes episode, Bruce Potter, Extension Integrated Pest Management Specialist, Andy Nesseth, part owner, agronomist and crop consultant from Extended Ag Services of Lakefield, MN and Dean Malvick, Extension corn and soybean plant pathologist joined moderators and Extension educators David Nicolai and Ryan Miller to discuss corn rootworms and crop diseases.
