The Ninth District Past President’s Parley of the American Legion Auxiliary gathered on Sunday, Sept. 18th at the Golden Link, Crookston for their annual luncheon and meeting.

Avian influenza confirmed in Ransom County; events suspended

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey and chicken flock in Ransom County, North Dakota. The detection extends the suspension of poultry/bird events in Ransom and the adjoining counties of Barnes, Cass and Richland, which were currently under suspension from a late August finding in Cass County. Adjoining counties newly under suspension due to the Ransom County finding are Sargent, Dickey and LaMoure. Additional counties still under suspension from earlier findings include Traill, Steele, McLean, McHenry, Ward, Mountrail, Renville and Burke.

Now that the Covid hiatus is over, the Crookston American Legion Auxiliary and the Crookston Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary resumed their monthly bingo’s with the residents. Lots of happy faces and winners.

Grants to improve choices for people with disabilities

Innovations that improve options for people with disabilities will go forward over the next two years across Minnesota, funded by a new round of state grants. Ten service providers will share approximately $2.9 million to support people with disabilities to live and engage with others in their communities and access better employment opportunities.

Minnesota Crookston Women’s Cross Country Finishes 26th at Roy Griak Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s cross country team took 26 of 30 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational Women’s Maroon 6K. The Golden Eagles beat NSIC schools Upper Iowa University and Concordia University-St. Paul. Madison Hilliard (Fr., Jacksonville, N.C.) led the Golden Eagles with a time of 24:50.4, placing 96 of 382 runners. Anna Grabowski (So., Waterdown, Ontario) returned after missing the St. Olaf Invitational. She finished in 25:17.5. Madison Elijah (So., Hebron, Ind.) clocked in at 28:40.9. Brooke Benson (Sr., Monroe, Wash.) posted a time of 30:03.5. Alex Christen (R-So., Sauk Centre, Minn.) set her season best with a time of 30:44.9. Rena Sakai (Sr., Chiba, Japan) also set her season best with a time of 32:21.1. Katie Orth (Sr., Randall, Minn.) posted a time of 32:24.5. Brianna Shaw (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) improved her time, finishing in 35:37.3.
