It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Minnesota Crookston Baseball to Hold First Alumni Day and Banquet during Homecoming October 8

The University of Minnesota Crookston is ramping up their annual alumni game by turning it into the first UMN Crookston Baseball Alumni Day Saturday, October 8. The day will start off with a UMC Teambackers Tailgate at the UMN Crookston Baseball Field beginning at 11 a.m. The alumni game will commence with first pitch at 1 p.m. It will be followed by an alumni social at the Crookston Inn (Scobey’s Pub and Grub).

Boys soccer

Brannnon has been doing a great job holding down the midfield area and distributing the ball. Brannon scored a goal vs. East Grand Forks off a corner kick in our 2-1 loss to EGF last Thursday. He is a captain on the team, plays basketball and golf, and loves to lift weights!

Football

Ethan is a dominant football player. He had some incredible runs in the game against Frazee on Friday. He is a player that will get extra attention on both sides of the ball from every opponent we will face this year because of his strength and abilities. Ethan is also a very good teammate and leader.

Girls swimming

This weeks Pirate of the Week is Freshman, Swimmer Chloe Boll. Chloe has really stepped in to the role of the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle swimmer. Chloe is a hard worker always looking to be challenged, pushed and never backs away form a hard practice. Chloe has been improving from week to week in her races, becoming stronger and stronger in her racing. Chloe is not only a hardworking swimmier but is also playing on the Pirate tennis team.

Minnesota Crookston Falls 5-0 to Augustana in Road Tilt

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 5-0 to Augustana University Sunday, September 25. The Vikings scored four goals in the first half and tallied one more in the second.

PUMPKINS FOR PARKINSON’S DAY SET FOR OCTOBER 4

The community is invited to the seventh annual Altru Family YMCA Pumpkins for Parkinson’s Day on Tuesday, October 4. The event will feature a giant pumpkin display, Al’s Pumpkin Bake-off, and a free pumpkin cupcake with a donation of any amount.

For two years, Attorney General Ellison’s office has held Feeding Our Future accountable

SAINT PAUL — Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and his office have been deeply involved for two years in holding Feeding Our Future accountable. The Attorney General’s Office worked closely with the Minnesota Department of Education as they provided suspicions of fraud and other evidence and information to the FBI, which directly led to the federal investigation and indictments of Feeding Our Future and its founder Aimee Bock. Without the Attorney General’s involvement alongside MDE in flagging that fraud and turning it over to the criminal investigative power of the federal government, there would likely have been no federal investigation or indictments. The FBI has praised this cooperation.

“You Can’t Take My Slaves”, Part IV: “Lincoln’s Assassination to the 14th Amendment” Following the Union victory at Gettysburg, there were a number of key changes. First, the morale among Union troops was raised substantially. Equally significant was the withdrawal of English and French for the Confederates. Victories and the Western front also had become im-pressive; key among these were triumphs of troops led by General Ulysses S. Grant. Following his Union victory at Shiloh (April 6-7, 1862), and the lengthy siege at Vicksburg (concluded on July 4, 1863, one day after Gettysburg), his troops triumphed in a key Southern engagement at Chattanooga, Tenn. (November 23-25, 1863). In April, 1864, upset by the string of mediocre Union generals, President Lincoln appointed Grant the Union “General-in-Chief”, while making General Sherman William Tecumseh his chief lieutenant.

My Daughter

Friends have asked why I haven’t written about my four-year-old daughter. Some know me as a doting dad and conjectured that I was too deeply in love to make fun of her. Incorrect. I only make fun of people I love. And golfers and pickle-ballers. Okay, I make fun of a lot of people. But that very much includes the ones I love. It’s how I show love. I admit it’s immature and there are better ways to show love. And yet… here we are.
