It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Care and Share of Crookston, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services to individuals and families in need within the Crookston community. Their offerings include an emergency shelter, a soup kitchen serving two meals daily, and the New Hope Food Shelf, which is open to the public multiple times a week.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Care and Share treasures the gift of time and talents from volunteers. Opportunities include assisting in the donation room, property improvement projects, organizing supply drives, and participating in the Adopt-A-Room Program. Volunteers aged 15 and above are welcome, with those under 18 requiring parent or guardian supervision. A volunteer agreement must be completed prior to volunteering.

• Property Improvement: Engage in painting, pressure washing, lawn care, and other maintenance tasks.

• Supply Drive: Organize drives for personal hygiene products, baby supplies, and food items.

• Adopt-A-Room Program: Collaborate with local churches to prepare and personalize rooms for homeless families.

Requirements or Commitments:

• Volunteers aged 15-17 must have parent or guardian supervision.

• Completion of a volunteer agreement prior to participation.

• Commitment to scheduled volunteer hours as agreed upon with the organization.
