Authorities are investigating how a Cass County Jail inmate apparently was able to obtain a controlled substance and then became unresponsive after ingesting it.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office said Sunday the inmate was treated at a hospital and is now back in jail, doing fine. The inmate's family was notified of the incident.

The sheriff's office along with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating how the controlled substance was brought into the jail.

No other details are being released while the incident is investigated.
