This week's Pirates of the Week are Brady Butt, Jenna Coauette, Joslynn Leach, Jack Ricord, Sam Sanchez, Logan Wardner, Tanner Janorschke and the girls' track/field true team.
Brady Butt - Jr. 3B/P
Head Coach Mitch Bakken says, “In the last three games, Brady has done extremely well at the plate. He was 5-12 (.417 BA) with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs. Almost all of his at-bats are quality, and he's a dangerous hitter for any pitcher to face. In addition to his offense, Brady threw extremely well against Sacred Heart going five innings, while giving up two earned runs and striking out four batters.”
Jenna Coauette - Fr. P/CF/C/SS
Head Coach Robbe Nessler says, “Jenna has been a key contributor for us. She leads the team in batting average and on-base percentage, she is second in innings pitched and she has played pitcher, catcher, center field and shortstop. She is coachable, has a great attitude and is going to give her all. She can be found in the weightroom most mornings, which sets a great example. She has a bright future, and I am excited to see what she will do.”
Joslynn Leach - So.
Head Coach Jeff Perreault says, “Joslynn provides a lot experience with a state tournament birth last season, leadership and being named one of the captains for this year's team. She has been pushing hard to get her score into the 80s and finally reached that goal with a medalist performance in Roseau shooting an 86. She works very hard and just has that golf mentality. She will be hugely important to the Pirates’ postseason run.”
Jack Ricord - Sr.
Head Coach Steve Kofoed says, “Jack Ricord had a very solid weekend for the Pirate boys’ golf team. Jack shot a season-best 80 at TRF on Friday and followed that up with another 80 in windy conditions in Roseau. Consistent scores like this from Jack will be a huge piece in our success this postseason.”
Sam Sanchez - Sr.
Head Coach Wayne Folkers says, “Sam Sanchez is a senior thrower. He has worked as hard as anyone this year, and his results are showing. I really believe he has a chance to do good things in the Section Meet and compete for a place at state.”
Tanner Janorschke - Sr.
Logan Wardner - Sr.
Head Coach Cody Brekken says, “Logan has returned from a knee injury and has been able to contribute significantly. He had strong victories for the Pirates at No. 1 doubles helping us beat EGF 4-3. Tanner has played everywhere from No. 1 singles to No. 2 doubles. He is very quick on the court and has strong ground strokes. Tanner played No. 3 singles to help us get a 4-3 victory over Grand Rapids.”
Head Coach Amy Boll says, “Congratulations on getting the wild card to go to the True Team State Meet. I am proud of all of you. Good luck at True Team State.”
