Four Crookston golfers shot their season-low and three notched their personal bests.
Joslynn Leach (So.) won medalist honors via scorecard playoff, and the Crookston Pirates claimed their third championship of the season taking first place out of four at the Roseau Invitational. The Pirates’ top four scores added to 365 to beat second-place Roseau by eight strokes. Crookston’s 365 is their best team score since combining for 374 at the season-opening invite.
“[Joslynn] was just excited to get into the 80s,” Pirates Head Coach Jeff Perreault said. “She’s been right there for a little while and had some tough holes that kind of put her out of that. So getting in the 80s was her first goal. Now that she’s accomplished that, she can focus on some other things.”
Shooting her best round of the year by four strokes at 86 (43/43), Leach, a 2018 state-qualifier, tied for first place, which she eventually won outright after a scorecard playoff.
Dani Boyle (Jr.) matched her season-low carding an 86 (45/41). Between Boyle and Leach across the season sans scorecard playoffs, Boyle has beaten her teammate three times, Leach took one and the two have tied twice.
Perreault only sees the back-and-forth between the teammates as a plus.
“I encourage that, I like competitiveness,” Perreault said. “They’re friendly towards each other, but I also think each girl would like to win. When you’re going out there in a conference meet, and you know you have a good teammate, and if you beat that teammate, chances are you’re medaling.”
Completing the roster were Bailey Cameron (Fr.) with 93 (47/46), Hannah Brouse (8th Grade) at 100 (52/48) and Sophia Rezac (So.) with 102 (53/49).
Brouse, Cameron and Rezac all recorded personal bests.
“The course was friendly to us today, and the girls took advantage of that,” Perreault said. “When you get personal bests, you get smiles on your faces, and hopefully, there’s some momentum that can be built up here towards the end of the year.”
The Pirates are back in action on Wednesday, March 15 in East Grand Forks. Tee time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
