Trey Christopherson led the Pirates through 36 holes at 162.

The Crookston Pirates posted a 333 in day one of the Fergus Falls Invitational and cut two strokes the next day to place sixth out of six at the Fergus Falls Invite. Following their last round at Fertile/Red Lake Falls, Pirates Head Coach Steve Kofoed said the team's first goal would be to get under 340.

Day 1

"Our big thing was to show progress, and we did," Pirates Head Coach Steve Kofoed said. "The next step is, can we get ourselves under 330? Can we get a couple of those guys who felt like they were playing pretty well to get under 80?"

Trey Christopherson (Sr.) and Quinn Westlake (Jr.) each shot an 81 to lead the team. For Westlake, 81 matches his best round of the season.

Other scores featured Jack Ricord (Sr.) at 84, Jaxon Wang (So.) with 87, Ben Andringa (Jr.) at 88 and Brock Heppner rounding out the list with 95. Wang's 87 is also a season-best.

"I think both Quinn and Trey felt like they had a good chance to [shoot under 80] at some point late in the round," Kofoed said. "I know Trey ended up doubling his second to last hole, which is a pretty simple par-5, so he wasn't really happy with that. Quinn sounded like he was missing some short putts. I'm very pleased with those two guys for sure."

Kofoed believes of the four rounds his team has competed in, Fergus Falls' course served as the most difficult. After shaving seven strokes from their last 18 holes, the Pirates head coach hopes his team makes the necessary adjustments to improve again.

"One of the big things that we stressed is coming out on day two and playing as good or better," Kofoed said. "In the last few years, maybe we played pretty well on day one, but on day two, we kind of backed up."

Day 2

Christopherson matched his day one score shooting another 81, Wang improved to 84 for 171, Andringa also finished at 171 after an 83 on day two, Westlake carded a 91 for 172, Ricord finished at 93 for 177 and Heppner dropped his day two count to 83 for 178.

The Pirates return on Monday, May 6 when they compete in Bemidji at 9 a.m.
