The Golden Eagles move to 3-5.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Jayden Grover (Jr., RHP, Cooperstown, N.D.) pitched a shutout over five innings as the University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team upended Walsh University 2-0. The win was the first for the Golden Eagles on their eight-game excursion to Florida.

    The Golden Eagles move to 3-5 with the win Mon., March 4 at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fla. Walsh falls to 1-6 with Monday’s loss. The Cavaliers were a 26-23 team in 2018.

    Grover through a gem of a game for the Golden Eagles as he went five frames and gave up no runs on no hits over five innings with one strikeout and five walks. Minnesota Crookston also got strong relief pitching on the day. Henry Pesch (Fr., RHP, Minneota, Minn.) pitched one inning of shutout ball with no hits and one strikeout. Aaron Hollcraft (Sr., LHP, Crookston, Minn.) made his season debut after flying into Florida last night after being with the men’s basketball team Sunday at the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. Hollcraft went one inning with no runs allowed on one hit. Dalton Grose (R-So., LHP, Waterville, Minn.) picked up the two inning save for the Golden Eagles, allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.

    The loss for Walsh went to Nik Barkdull, who allowed two runs on five hits over four innings. Barkdull had seven strikeouts with five walks allowed. Dylan Corsi pitched four innings shutting out Minnesota Crookston over four innings with just two hits given up. Frank Frate pitched the last inning for the Cavaliers, shutting down the Golden Eagles in one stanza.

    The lone run of the tilt came in the third stanza as Brock Reller (So., OF, Grand Forks, N.D.) singled to center field to drive in Reed Hjelle (Sr., 1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.), and Landyn Swenson (Jr., OF, Devils Lake, N.D.).

    Swenson led the way for Minnesota Crookston, going 2-of-4 with one run scored. Hjelle went 1-of-3 with one run scored. Reller was 1-of-5 with two RBIs, while Jonathan Lund (Sr., 1B/3B, Tolna, N.D.) and Bobby Chu (Jr., C, Redwood City, Calif.) were both 1-of-3 for the game.

    Chad Jones and Bailey Mosley had the only two hits for Walsh on the day.

    The Golden Eagles return to action Tues., March 5 as the Minnesota Crookston plays a double header. Minnesota Crookston takes on Grand Valley State University at 11 a.m. C.T., and Cedarville University 2:30 p.m. C.T., at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimee, Fla.
