CROOKSTON - The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team will continue their non-conference slate Tues., Feb. 12 and Wed., Feb. 13 with four games at the Dragon Beaver Battle in West St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Eagles will take on Bemidji State University Tues., Feb. 12 at 10 a.m., followed by a tilt with Minnesota State University Moorhead Tues., Feb. 12 at 12 p.m. The Golden Eagles will then face Southwest Minnesota State University Wed., Feb. 13 at 9 a.m., followed by Bemidji State at 11 a.m.

    All four games will be played at the West St. Paul Dome in West St. Paul, Minn. The games will all count toward the non-conference record for the Golden Eagles, despite being played against NSIC squads.

    The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 2-2 mark. Minnesota Crookston is currently off to their best start since the 2008 season as they opened 2019 with wins over Black Hills State University, and Minot State University last weekend.

UMC Preview

    Minnesota Crookston was stellar in the circle on their opening weekend as they posted a 2.41 ERA in 29.0 innings pitched. The Golden Eagles were led by Paige Pitlick (Jr., RHP, Jordan, Minn.), who went 1-2 with a 0.98 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched. Taylor Graven (So., RHP, Greene, Iowa) posted a 1-0 mark with a 1.80 ERA in 11.2 innings in the circle.

    At the plate, the Golden Eagles come in hitting .287 with 23 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 22 RBIs. Minnesota Crookston has posted a .417 slugging percentage, along with a .415 on-base percentage.

    Minnesota Crookston was led at the plate by Rocky Bjorge (Sr., 3B/1B, Prior Lake, Minn.), who hit .600 with two runs scored, one double, and two RBIs. Jordan Peterson (So., C/UT, Lakeville, Minn.) batted .400 with three runs scored, one double, and four RBIs. Mika Rodriguez (Jr., 2B/SS, Laveen, Ariz.) hit .333 with five runs scored, two home runs and three RBIs.

Bemidji State Preview

    Tuesday’s game will mark the season opener for the Beavers, who are in their eighth season under the leadership of Rick Supinski. Bemidji State posted a 17-27 (6-16 NSIC) mark in 2017.

    The Beavers are led by returnee Makayla Pagel, who hit .365 last season with 22 runs, six doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBIs. Jessica Burlingame also returns after hitting .349 with 29 runs scored, 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 21 RBIs. Bemidji State hit .278 last season with 172 runs scored, 57 doubles, five triples, 25 home runs, and 157 RBIs.

    In the circle, Bemidji State is paced by sophomore Stephi Dullum, who was 8-11 with a 3.98 ERA in 116.0 innings pitched last season. Dullum had 84 strikeouts to 21 walks in 2018. Rochelle Koshalek also returns after posting a 3-6 mark with a 4.62 ERA in 50.0 innings in the circle.

MSU Moorhead Preview

    The Dragons will also open the season at the Dragon Beaver Battle in West St. Paul, Minn. MSU Moorhead went 14-30 (5-19 NSIC) during the 2018 campaign.

    The Dragons are guided by Madison Paige, who hit .359 last season with 19 runs scored, eight doubles, two home runs and 28 RBIs. Ashley McCance also returns after batting .32 with 23 runs scored, five doubles, five home runs and 16 RBIs. MSU Moorhead hit .264 last season with 151 runs scored, 53 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs and 141 RBIs.

    In the circle, MSU Moorhead is led by Becky Berth, who posted an 8-16 mark with a 5.94 ERA in 132.0 innings in the circle. Berth had 83 strikeouts to 58 walks. Payton Gaber also returns after going 0-4 with an 8.20 ERA with 42.2 innings pitched. Gaber had nine strikeouts to 30 walks in 2018.

Southwest Minnesota State Preview

    The Mustangs also open the season this week in West St. Paul, Minn. Southwest Minnesota State went 18-26 (10-14 NSIC) last season.

    The Mustangs will look to Bailey Johnson, who hit .341 last season with 28 runs scored, 11 doubles, three home runs and 23 RBIs. Kali Tomlinson also is back for Southwest Minnesota State after hitting .329 with 21 runs scored, 11 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 30 RBIs. The Mustangs hit .275 last season with 171 runs scored, 54 doubles, seven triples, 25 home runs and 149 RBIs.

    Shelby Crank returns to lead the pitching staff after going 6-7 with a 5.00 ERA in 92.1 innings pitched last season with 62 strikeouts and 31 walks. Megan Cull is also back for the Mustangs after going 7-10 last season with a 5.07 ERA in 106.1 innings pitched with 94 strikeouts and 30 walks.
