The Pirates fall to 3-4 with the loss.

Three Pirates scored over 15 points, but Crookston could not match the Roseau Rams' offense in an 83-67 loss on the road.

Caden Osborn (Jr. C) scored nearly a third of the Pirates' (3-4) points with 21, Nick Garmen (Sr. F) totaled 19, Jaden Lubarski (Sr. F) reached 17, Walker Winjum (Jr. G) tallied eight and Easton Tangquist (So. G) rounded out the list with two.

“We got the ball to Caden inside often and early and Jaden was aggressively taking it to the hoop,” Head Coach Greg Garmen said. “They sort of clamped down Nick early. They had one of their 6-foot-5-inch kids on him and he was struggling to get a shot off in the first half. Then he sort of came alive in the second half which helped.”

Four different Rams (5-2) scored double digits. Eric Hoffer (Sr. G) put on a show with 35 points, Jack Hirst (Sr. F) contributed 17, Nathan O'Connor (Sr. C) added 12 and Jacob Lindemann (Sr. F) put up 11.

The Pirates knew what awaited them playing against Hoffer, but could not prevent the senior from attacking the rim.

“[Hoffer] does this every time we play him,” Garmen said. “He can get to the hoop and we struggled to keep him from getting there. All but two of his shots were in the paint if I remember right. He’s strong with the ball, he can handle it and he shoots it well. We knew it, but couldn’t stop him.”

First halves have haunted Crookston this year and today was no different. Roseau jumped out to a 36-27 lead at halftime with three Pirate starters on the bench in foul trouble.

“We might have to rethink that a little bit and just play them and take our chances because we’re not getting enough off the bench,” Garmen said. “We’ll have to look at that as we get into the new year and maybe roll with them a little bit longer. I think [fouls] were better than they have been, but we had three starters with two each in the first half.”

Crookston fared better in the second half in terms of keeping with the Rams, but Roseau still outscored the Pirates by seven in the latter half and went on to win 83-67.

The Pirates will try to get back to .500 when they take on the East Grand Forks Green Wave in East Side on Friday, January 4 at 7:30 p.m.
