Boike will also help out as he’s able to with the eighth-grade girls’ basketball team.

The Crookston School Board on Monday approved the hiring of Lon Boike as a half-time seventh grade girls’ basketball coach, but two board members, Kari Miller and Patty Dillabough, voted against his hiring.

Before the vote, Miller said she’s happy with the direction the school district is heading as it strives for excellence and “moves forward toward a positive climate and culture.” She added that she didn’t think “this action is in the best interests of our students.”

Board Chair Frank Fee, in introducing the resolution, indicated that Boike will also help out as he’s able to with the eighth-grade girls’ basketball team.

Boike currently teaches physical education and health in the school district. He coached Pirate varsity girls’ basketball from 2008 to 2015 and Pirate varsity volleyball from 2007 to 2013.
