Minnesota Crookston averaged 10.1 kills per set last week and hit .171.
The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team is set to hit the road Fri., Oct. 19 and Sat., Oct. 20 as they take on Winona State University and Upper Iowa University. Matches start at 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
The Golden Eagles are looking to build off one of the best weekends of the season as they beat Bemidji State and took sets off Minnesota State University and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Concordia University-St. Paul. The set win over the Golden Bears was only the third for the Golden Eagles since 2000 against the nation’s top NCAA Division II program, who has won nine of the last 11 NCAA Division II National Championships.
Minnesota Crookston averaged 10.1 kills per set last week and hit .171. The Golden Eagles were led by Deaira Gresham (So., OH, Maplewood, Minn.), who averaged 2.91 kills per set and hit .152 for Minnesota Crookston. Porsha Porath (Fr., OH, Windom, Minn.) also had a strong weekend as she averaged 2.73 kills per set and hit .228 for the Golden Eagles.
At setter, Sydney Kruisselbrink (So., S, Rochester, Minn.) tallied 7.73 assists per set. On the serve, Lauren Ulibarri (Jr., DS, Flagstaff, Ariz.) made an impact with six service aces last week as the Golden Eagles notched 19 on the three matches.
Defensively, Katie Lienemann (So., Lib., Rochester, Minn.) paced Minnesota Crookston with 3.27 digs per set, while Gresham tallied 2.64 digs per set.
Winona State enters the weekend with a 9-13 (6-8 NSIC) mark. The Warriors have lost their last four matches coming into their home tilt against Minnesota Crookston. Winona State is paced by Megan Flom, who is tallying 2.94 kills per set and hitting .244. In addition, Cori Meyers enters the weekend notching 2.51 kills per set. At setter, Bre Maloney is averaging 9.86 assists per set and helping lead the Warriors to 12.8 kills per set and a .198 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Winona State is paced by Becca Pagel’s 3.94 digs per set, while Taylor Goar is averaging 3.47 digs per set. The Warriors are averaging 16.3 digs per set. Sophie Wilker is leading Winona State on the block with 1.04 blocks per set.
Upper Iowa comes into the week with a 14-8 (7-7 NSIC) record. The Peacocks are 3-1 in their last four matches with their only loss coming to nationally-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth. The Peacocks boast a veteran squad in 2018 that includes 11 upperclassmen.
Upper Iowa is notching 13.3 kills per set and a .211 hitting percentage on the season. The Peacocks are paced by Anna Winter, who is averaging 3.74 kills per set and hitting .261 on the season. In addition, Kaitlin Niedert is averaging 2.97 kills per set, while Lauren Wombles is notching 2.20 kills per set. At setter, Malissa LeClaire is averaging 10.6 assists per set.
Defensively, Upper Iowa is paced by Haley Weepie’s 4.51 digs per set, while LeClaire is averaging 3.22 digs per set. On the block, Bethany Lovhaug is notching 1.04 blocks per set.
