The 2017 Pirates leader in goals, Mason LaPlante, sent two shots to the back of the net late in the second half.
The Pirates traveled to North Dakota for their inaugural game against Jamestown. Crookston outscored Jamestown 2-0 in the second half, but could not overcome the 3-0 deficit let in the first half and lost game one 3-2.
Jamestown took four shots on goal in the first half and converted on 75 percent of them.
“Our guys played very well for both halves,” Head Coach Don Cox said. “We were just a bit ragged defensively in the first and not very focused offensively, but they dialed that up in the second.”
The Pirates controlled the ball in the second half which led to two goals scored by Sr. F Mason LaPlante.
“They fouled [Sam] Overgaard in the box and he had LaPlante take the shot,” Cox said. “Then, about two minutes later, [Eric] Delorme and LaPlante combined to bring the ball back down for another point.
The goals came in the 76th and 77th minute, but the Pirates could not equalize and fell to 0-1 to start the season.
Crookston will look to get in the win column on Tuesday, August 28 against Pelican Rapids. Game time is 4 p.m.
