This week's Pirates of the Week are Amy Follette, Alex LaFrance, Dani Boyle, the Varsity Girls' Track/Field Team, Ben Brantner, Jack Garmen and Ethan Magsam.

Amy Follette - Sr. OF

Head Coach Robbe Nessler says, “As a senior on a younger squad, Amy has provided leadership and steady play in the outfield for us this season. She brings energy and enthusiasm to the dugout and helps others stay positive as well. Amy can be relied upon to make plays defensively and has also been swinging her bat well. I’ve enjoyed coaching her thus far and look forward to seeing how she can contribute to our efforts as we approach postseason play.”

Alex LaFrance - Sr. C/P/OF

Head Coach Mitch Bakken says, “Alex leads the Pirates’ offense in numerous categories. He is currently batting .500 (10-20) and leads the team in batting average. He has walked 11 times and has only struck out twice. He leads the team in slugging percentage (.550) and on-base percentage (.688). He is also second on the team in stolen bases and RBIs. Defensively, he has a .970 fielding percentage. Alex is a solid baseball player and has a high baseball IQ. He makes his teammates better with hard work, hustle and does a great job of leading. Alex is going to have a successful senior season.”

Girls' Golf

Dani Boyle - So.

Head Coach Jeff Perreault says, “Dani is off to a great start for the Pirates this season. She was a medalist in our home invite shooting an 86 and finished 11th at the Park Rapids invite at The Headwaters by firing an 89. For a sophomore, Dani has a lot of varsity experience and we are starting to see the results. She is very athletic and has a great golf swing. Her goal right now is to find consistency in her game so she can help the Pirates make a run at the section title in early June.”

Girls' Track/Field

Varsity Team

Head Coach Amy Boll says, “Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Track Team. They will be advancing to the Minnesota State True Team Meet in Stillwater Saturday, May 19. The team had an outstanding performance on Tuesday. Congratulations, we are very proud of you.”

Boys' Track/Field

Ben Brantner - So.

Head Coach Wayne Folkers says, “Ben is one of our top distance runners. He also does very well in the classroom. He has been getting better with every meet he runs. I look forward to seeing what he can do at the end of the season.”

Boys' Tennis

Jack Garmen - 8th Grade

Head Coach Cody Brekken says, “Jack played well at the Pine City Invitational last weekend going 2-1 at No. 3 singles to earn a consolation medal. He first lost the opening match to Pine City, but then came back to beat Litchfield and then St. Peter in the Consolation Championship game. Jack is an eighth grader that has shown he belongs on the varsity roster. He continues to work hard and improve every week which paid off for him this last weekend.”

Boys' Golf

Ethan Magsam - Sr.

Head Coach Steve Kofoed says, “Ethan has put together three very solid rounds of golf in Fergus Falls and Bemidji. In Fergus, Ethan carded rounds of 79 and 75 on a tough golf course with windy conditions. His total was one stroke from making the All-Tournament Team. Ethan then followed up his solid play with a 78 at BTCC, which was good enough for a fifth place finish. His score also helped the Pirates win the Bemidji Invitational.”
