Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-34 (2-16 NSIC) with Monday's losses.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston softball team fell 7-0 and 6-1 Mon., April 23 against Augustana University at Bowden Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Eagles and Vikings were knotted up 0-0 going into to bottom of the fourth in game one, but Augustana scored seven runs in the final three frames to pick up the win. In the second game, the Vikings got out to an early 5-0 advantage in the first two innings.

Paige Pitlick (So., RHP, Jordan, Minn.) gave up just four hits in the first three innings in Monday’s first game before running into trouble after the fourth. Pitlick picked up the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in four innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Despite the troubles late, Pitlick still put forth a solid outing in the circle.
Heather Cunningham (Sr., RHP, Jacksonville, Fla.) came on in relief and gave up three runs on five hits in two innings of work.
Ashley Mickschi got the win for Augustana as she tossed a three-hit shutout on the day with nine strikeouts and just one walk.
Taylor Allen (Fr., C/OF, Neepawa, Manitoba), Kassidy Klaphake (Sr., P, Cold Spring, Minn.) and Luisa Silvain (Jr., P, Tucson, Ariz.) picked up the hits in game one for the Golden Eagles.
Abbie Lund went 2-of-4 with one run scored for the Vikings. Kylie Rome finished 2-of-3 with one run scored, while Maggie Kadrlik was 1-of-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Mickschi was 2-of-4 with a run scored.
The first run of the game crossed in the bottom of the fourth when Maggie Dunnett put down a bunt and drove in Michschi to make it 1-0.
The Vikings added four runs as Pitlick ran into some control issues in the fifth. After a throwing error by Pitlick, she hit Rome to put two on with no out. Both runners would advance on a passed ball. Lund came into score on a Pitlick wild pitch to make it 2-0. Rome would score on a passed ball to extend the lead to 3-0. Kadrlik then delivered a two-run home run to score herself and Shannon Petersen to move the advantage to 5-0.
Augustana added two runs in the sixth with a Morgan Beaner two-run rocket to plate herself and Bunnett to move the lead to 7-0.
Minnesota Crookston loaded the bases in the top of the seventh. Maycee Trujillo (Jr., 3B, Sioux Falls, S.D.) started it off by reaching on an error with one out. Allen then reached on a fielder’s choice with Trujillo staying alive on the base paths with a throwing error on the pitcher. A Klaphake single loaded the bases with one out for the Golden Eagles. However, Minnesota Crookston came up empty as Augustana took the first game 7-0.
The Vikings got out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings of the second game. Augustana looked to doubles from Kaylea Schorr and Kadrlik and a Taylor Bross solo shot to propel their early onslaught.
Klaphake picked up the loss for the Golden Eagles after giving up five runs on six hits in 1.2 innings in the circle. Mikayla Jones (Jr., RHP, Huxley, Iowa) had a strong outing in relief as she allowed just one run on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 4.1 innings of work.
Olivia Wolters got the win for Augustana after going four innings and giving up no runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Lexy Pederson also pitched for the Vikings and gave up just one run on three hits in three frames.
Minnesota Crookston notched eight hits in the second game. Gabriel Antolak (Sr., C/3B, Zimmerman, Minn.) was 2-of-3 for the game, as was Samantha Proctor (So., C/1B, Champlin, Minn.) and Rocky Bjorge (So., 1B/3B, Prior Lake, Minn.). Victoria Bayliss (Sr., OF, West Bloomfield, Mich.) went 1-of-4 with one run scored.
The Vikings looked to Bross, who was 3-of-4 with one run scored. Schorr finished 1-of-3 with two RBIs while Lund was 2-of-4 with two runs scored and Rome was 2-of-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Augustana scored first in the bottom of the first as Kendall Cornick came in on a passed ball. Schorr later doubled to left center to drive in Lund to extend the lead to 2-0.
A one-run home run from Bross moved the advantage to 3-0 in the bottom of the second. Rome followed by lacing a single to center field to plate Lund. A Kadrlik double later scored Rome as the Vikings took a 5-0 advantage.
Minnesota Crookston got a run back when Mikaela Rodriguez (So., SS/2B, Laveen, Ariz.) singled up the middle to plate Bayliss.
Augustana moved their lead to 6-1 in the sixth when Scorr was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Rome to come to the dish for the score.
Minnesota Crookston will end the season with a six-game home stand at the UMC Softball Field. The games are slated to be the first at home for the Golden Eagles, who have lived on the road due to weather cancellations and poor field conditions. The field is finally ready to play as Minnesota Crookston looks forward to playing at their friendly confines.
