BISMARCK, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team dropped Saturday’s match 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) to the University of Mary at McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck, N.D.   

    The Golden Eagles were within two points late in the first set and held a three-point advantage in the second set. However, Minnesota Crookston ran into a similar wall that has plagued them in other matches this season as they were unable to close out sets in the final points.   

    Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-17 (3-12 NSIC) with Saturday’s loss. The Marauders improved to 7-17 (3-12 NSIC) following the victory.   

    The Golden Eagles struggled on offense as they had just 27 kills with 21 errors, hitting .063 on the match. Kassi Green (R-Sr., OH, Anoka, Minn.) paced Minnesota Crookston with 10 kills and a .121 hitting percentage. Kelci Green (R-Sr., MH, Anoka, Minn.) notched seven kills and a .176 hitting percentage. Deaira Greshman (Fr., OH, Maplewood, Minn.) struggled at the second outside hitter spot with three kills compared to eight errors on the match. At setter, Kaycie Hagen (Sr., S, Savage, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles with 25 assists.   

    Minnesota Crookston’s defense notched 42 digs over the three sets. Maggie Perrel (R-Sr., Lib., New Germany, Minn.) notched 14 digs. Ali Schueler (R-So., DS, Howards Grvoe, Wis.) tallied eight digs. On the block, Minnesota Crookston was paced by two block assists and one solo block by Callie Schapekahm (Jr., MH, Eagan, Minn.).   

    The Marauders raced out to an early 3-0 lead in the first set with kills from Natalia Cruz and Katelyn Olson. Minnesota Crookston came right back with three-consecutive points as a Kassi Green service ace tied the match up 3-3. U-Mary moved the advantage to 5-3 with a Cruz kill. The Marauders used a 5-2 run to move out to a 10-5 lead with a Cruz service ace. U-Mary extended their lead to 18-11 following an Olson kill. Minnesota Crookston did not give in as they took 10-of-15 points to pull within 23-21 with a Kassi Green kill. The Marauders held off the comeback and took the first set 25-23.   

    The Marauders got out to an early 3-1 lead in the second set with a Kassi Green service ace. Minnesota Crookston responded with a 5-0 run to go up 5-3 on a Cruz attack error. The Golden Eagles moved their lead to 9-5 after an Olson ball handling error. The Marauders countered with a 4-0 run to knot the match at 9-9 following an Olson kill. Minnesota Crookston moved back into the lead 19-15 with a Randall attack error. The Golden Eagles extended their advantage to 22-19 with a Schapekahm kill. The Marauders closed out the frame on a 6-1 run as they won 25-23 following a Cruz kill.   

    U-Mary raced out to a 6-1 lead in the third set with a Kelci Green attack error. Minnesota Crookston responded with a 7-1 run as they took the lead 8-7 following a Morgan Schnabel attack error. The Marauders took the lead right back with a 3-0 run to make it 10-8. Minnesota Crookston knotted it up 10-10 with a Kassi Green kill. U-Mary then went on a 12-5 run to ahead 22-15 after a Gresham attack error. The Marauders were able to take the win 25-18 in set three and a 3-0 victory in the match with a Freddie Campbell kill.   

    Minnesota Crookston will return to action Tues., Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. against Bemidji State University.
