The Golden Eagles put a close to their year with an overall record of 0-14-3, 0-12-3 in NSIC play.

The 2017 UM Crookston soccer season came to a close Sunday afternoon, with a 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs of UMD. Despite a much improved second half of the season, the Golden Eagles put a close to their year with an overall record of 0-14-3, 0-12-3 in NSIC play.

Neither team scored in the opening period that closed with each team taking a pair of shots. Crookston’s Nikki Dogan (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D.) got the only shot on goal for either team, but she was stopped by the Bulldog keeper Sisley Ng (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) who earned her fourth shutout of the season. Crookston’s sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Puttin (Rogers, Minn.) closed out 2017 with another solid performance as she made four total saves, only allowing one goal that came off the foot of Duluth’s Nan Glinsek (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) who went high over Puttin, early in the second half.

Team defense was once again a strong point for Minnesota Crookston as they protected their net and stopped twelve Minnesota Duluth corner kicks.

Frosh midfielder Jessica Withrow (Gardnerville, Nev.) had the only Golden Eagle shot on goal in the second half but Crookston did have a couple rushes late that were led by forwards Vanessa Shelton (Fr., Tacoma, Wash.) and Gabby Kekke (Sr., Argyle, Minn.). Neither play resulted in a shot on goal but both created quality chances for the home side.

UMD advances to the 2017 NSIC tournament with the win as they secured the eighth and final spot with the victory.
