Girls’ basketball perfect in 2022

The Crookston Pirates girls' basketball team is a perfect 3-0 in 2022, following its two wins against Virginia and Hermantown this weekend. On Saturday, the Pirates stomped the Hawks in a 73-36 victory.

Boys’ basketball falls to Fertile-Beltrami 39-73

The Crookston Pirates boys' basketball team dropped its ninth game of the season to Fertile Beltrami 39-73. Despite the final score, the Pirates hung with the Falcons for much of the first half.

Pirates defeat Burros in quick fashion

The Crookston Pirates wrestling team made quick work of the Hillsboro Burros, defeating them in less time it took to make the drive to Hillsboro. Rather than start at the lowest Rather than start at the lowest weight class, which is done in Minnesota, Hillsboro flipped for the starting weight class.

Men’s Hockey opens 2022 with sweep of NDSU

The University of Minnesota Crookston hockey team picked up a sweep over North Dakota State University with 6-4 and 6-3 wins at the West Fargo Sports Arena in West Fargo, N.D. The Golden Eagles picked up their second-straight sweep and pushed their win streak to four. They have won five out of their last six games.

Extension Advanced Crop Advisors Workshop set for Feb. 8 – 9

University of Minnesota (UMN) Extension and North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension will conduct the annual Advanced Crop Advisers Workshop on February 8-9 at the Fargo Holiday Inn. “This workshop is designed to provide in-depth discussion on selected topics to help agricultural professionals enhance their crop production recommendations for farmers,” says Angie Peltier UMN Extension crops educator and workshop co-chair.

Crookston Visitors Bureau holds annual meeting

Crookston Visitors Bureau recently held their annual meeting and elected officers for 2022 as well as officially approving the hire of new Tourism Coordinator Cathy LaJesse. CVB's newly elected chair, Cory Dallager, who manages and co-owns AmericInn in Crookston, provided the CVB's annual report to the City Council at the Council's last meeting which included their first year of accomplishments after becoming a standalone nonprofit.

Lawsuit: Elite colleges gouge the poor

A federal lawsuit claims 16 of the most selective universities conspired to raise prices on students from poor or middleclass backgrounds. “Elite, private universities,” the lawsuit read, “are gatekeepers to the American Dream.
