UMN Crookston alumnus Flage builds successful career in extension in North Dakota

When Lynette (Amundson) Flage first arrived on the campus of the University of Minnesota Crookston, a two-year technical college in 1981, she never imagined the career that would be in store for her. Flage initially had the vision of being a family and consumer science teacher. The development of the family, and the home, and educating others always excited her. It just so happened her career turned down a different path, but still with an important lifelong emphasis on education. Flage has made a career as an extension educator and is currently serving as the Associate Director for North Dakota State University Extension.

CHS Speech team competes in last invitational of the season

Crookston High School's Speech team competed at its last invitational of the season in East Grand Forks Saturday, March 26 with many members of the team bringing home awards. In the category of Duo Interpretation, Samantha Rezac and Zara Baig brought home 1st place, plus Baig double entered in Humorous Interpretation and won 1st place in that category as well.

Diocese of Crookston making move to Mount Saint Benedict campus

During a video for their "Perfect Fit Campaign", the Diocese of Crookston announced they're moving their diocesan operations to the Mount Saint Benedict campus in the summer of 2022. Bishop of Crookston Most Reverend Andrew H. Cozzens said the Diocese was entering a "new era" and he was privileged and grateful to be the Diocese's new shepherd in this time.

RiverView Health: Get screened for colorectal cancer

Did you know the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force changed its colorectal (colon and rectum) cancer screening recommendations in 2021? It is now recommended that adults at average risk of getting colorectal cancer begin screening at 45 instead of the previously recommended age of 50.

Crookston Fire Department fire calls

A fire call came in March 24 at 3:15 a.m. to 320th St. SW in Climax Roome Township for a house fire. The fire was fully involved upon arrival and investigation is continuing for cause. They were assisted by Climax and Fisher fire departments.

Ruth Rand

Ruth Rand of Thief River Falls passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 at her home at the age of 83. A Memorial Service to honor Ruth’s life will take place at 2 p.m.

Loren David Wilken

Loren David Wilken, 69, lifelong Fisher resident died unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday morning, January 27, 2022. Loren was born in Crookston on November 25, 1952, the son of Ferdinand and Victoria (Ross) Wilken.
