Minnesota Crookston Baseball Set to Host Minot State Thursday

The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team is set for a mid-week doubleheader at home against Minot State University, Thursday, April 28 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. The games were relocated to the UMN Crookston Baseball Field from Minot, N.D., due to field conditions.

Benedictine Crookston to participate in National Skilled Nursing Care Week with multiple events

Benedictine Living Community Crookston is excited to participate in National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) from May 8-14, 2022. The NSNCW 2022 theme, “Creating and Nurturing Connections,” will celebrate skilled nursing centers, and their residents and staff. Established as an annual, week-long observance by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, NSNCW provides an opportunity to recognize the essential role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s elders and individuals with disabilities.

Traditions return to Northland Community & Technical College’s commencement ceremonies

The traditional jubilation of graduation will be on full display for the Class of 2022 and their families and guests during Northland Community & Technical College's Spring Commencement. For the first time in two years, Northland will hold in-person graduations to honor more than 700 graduates during two campus ceremonies. The Thief River Falls campus will celebrate its ceremony on Thursday, May 12, in the Northland gymnasium at 6:30 p.m., with a reception to follow in the Gunderson Commons. Northland's East Grand Forks campus will hold its ceremony on Friday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in the Chester Fritz Auditorium, Grand Forks, ND.

NAMI MN: May is Mental Health Awareness Month – You are Not Alone

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) along with dozens of other organizations are involved in community education about mental illnesses, including creating awareness that effective treatments are available and that people can and do recover.

ECFE Pool Night: Great attendance

Crookston Early Childhood Family Education held their pool event at the Crookston Community Pool April 25 and had great attendance. ECFE Parent Educator Gina Gunderson shared that 20 plus children attended with their parents and grandparents exploring the water, and, for some, it was the first time at the pool. "Lots of giggles, squeals, and splashing were heard and such a joy watching families enjoying time together!" said Gunderson. "Thank you to the Crookston Community Pool and the lifeguards for allowing this event to take place! Golden Link Senior Center to host mental health educational series events in May

The Golden Link Senior Center in Crookston recently received a grant from The Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation to have informational speakers and their first series of events is with Alluma. There will be four events May 3, 10, 17 and 24 starting at 10 a.m. at the senior center with different topics presented by Alluma speakers.

City Council tables sale of tax forfeited non-conservation land

Crookston City Council tabled a resolution approving the sale for tax forfeited non-conservation land property on Ingersoll Avenue at their April 25 meeting with a consensus that they’d like to see interim city administrator Corky Reynolds go back to Polk County to explore the situation. The land, which is designated as Parcel No. 82.02216.00, is located on the corner of Ingersoll Avenue and South Front Street and reportedly had $18,000 worth of past specials on the property. The intended purchase price of the land appeared to be $500, Reynolds told the Council.

Park Board gets updates on pool and summer activities, hears from high school visitor

Crookston Parks and Recreation Director Jake Solberg gave the Park Board an update on the Crookston Community Pool after it recently reopened and upcoming summer activities during their April 25 meeting. The board also heard from a visiting Crookston High School student who brought up a suggestion for dogs at the Humane Society.
