It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Department of Revenue establishes new Office of Public Engagement to create pathways toward equity

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Revenue today announced the establishment of an Office of Public Engagement. The new office will focus on building relationships with community leaders with an emphasis on reaching underrepresented populations. Led by new Public Engagement Director Audel Shokohzadeh, the office will enhance the department’s ability and capacity to listen, learn from, and demonstrate responsiveness to communities most impacted and rarely engaged around tax policy.

First MSUM BSN cohort to hold pinning ceremony Thursday, July 28

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s (MSUM) School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership is hosting a pinning ceremony for the university’s first Bachelor of Science in Nursing cohort on Thursday, July 28 at 3 p.m. in the Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom.

Child Care Economic Development Grants Now Open for Applications

Today, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) launched the latest round of Child Care Economic Development Grants. These grants authorize $4.85 million over two fiscal years for grants to community partners to increase quality child care providers to support economic development across Minnesota. A total of $2.425 million will be available in this second round of funding; $2.425 million was awarded previously to 14 projects.

Sister Lorraine Kraft died on July 22, 2022, at Villa Saint Vincent, Crookston. Sister Lorraine was born on May 10, 1933, near Fisher, the third of 15 children and the oldest daughter of Elizabeth (Wald) and Joseph Kraft.
