It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Klemek Outdoors: Katmai National Park and Preserve

Seven of us recently spent 11 days and ten nights canoeing, camping, and fishing deep in the wilderness of the nearly 6,000 square-mile/ four million-acre Katmai National Park and Preserve of southwest Alaska. It was an epic adventure that none of us will ever forget.

The discussion of rights in the “land of liberty” can be very confusing. The religious heritage subsumed into the Constitution is that all men are created equal. Centuries of inter-pretation and enactment have made application tricky. Sadly, I recall from my early childhood in rural Virginia hearing this disgusting male joke: “there are three places for a woman: kitchen, bedroom, and behind her man.” [Sorry—this is the only time I have used it!]

The Polk-Norman-Mahnomen Community Health Services WIC Program Provides One-on-One Support Before and During a Parent’s Breast/Chestfeeding Journey

Breastfeeding is important for babies, mothers, other birthing parents, and families. Many families start breast/ chestfeeding but are often not able to meet their goals due to lack of support. The Polk-Norman-Mahnomen Community Health Services WIC (PNM WIC) Program supports families before and during their infant feeding journey by talking about the importance of human milk, providing extra foods to support a lactating parent’s nutrition needs, and providing resources to help families reach their infant feeding goals.
