The Minnesota firearms deer hunting season is here once again. Close to a half a million hunters will take to the field and forest to sit vigil waiting for a deer. While many hunters will not harvest a deer, many will. One thing is for certain, though: everyone will observe something interesting in the great outdoors—be it a spectacular sunrise or sunset, different species of wildlife, or unique deer behavior never before seen— there is always something that hunters experience that they will never forget.

Isabel Maxine (Gramer) Tronson passed away on October 1, 2022, surrounded by family at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile. A Celebration of Life for Isabel is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston at 10:30 a.m., with a visitation one hour preceding the service.

Fine arts boosters award funds to Crookston schools.

The Pirate Fine Arts Boosters Board met recently and awarded over $14,000 in support of the arts programs in the Crookston Public Schools. The mission statement of the board is to promote, support and help fund the various fine arts programs in the Crookston Public Schools.

UMN Crookston welcomes cohort of students from Vietnam starting in 2023

It all stemmed from a dual degree articulation agreement with a member of the Vietnam National University in 2020 that led to the recruitment of students coming soon to the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause and Global Programs Director Sok Leng Tan traveled to southeast Asia in late September 2022 to meet with a cohort of students who had just completed their first year of studies at University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and those students are looking forward to coming to Crookston in Fall 2023.

Minnesota Deer Hunters Association announces new Executive Director

We are proud to announce Jared Mazurek as the new Executive Director for the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association (MDHA). Mazurek will be responsible for the leadership and management of MDHA in accordance with the strategic plan, Corporate Bylaws and MDHA’s mission of “working for tomorrow’s wildlife and hunter’s today.”

Winter Hazard Awareness Week November 14th–18th, 2022

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office – Emergency Management Division is participating in the state-wide Winter Hazard Awareness Week campaign, which will take place November 14th – 18th, 2022. Winter Hazard Awareness Week is promoted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Division of Homeland Security Emergency Management. This week allows Minnesotan’s an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the hazards we face each winter season. These hazards include dangers from winter weather, dangers from heating sources, and ventilation issues, just to name a few.
