It is with regret that CherryRoad Media announces the closing of The Crookston Times

Our company is dedicated to the preservation of community journalism. Since the purchase of our 1st paper in late-2020 to today, we have prided ourselves on our ability to fight the difficult battle that newspapers face in today’s digital society. Unfortunately, that battle cannot always be won.

The Crookston Times has struggled in recent years to find its footing in this community. Since purchasing The Crookston Times, CherryRoad Media has been unable to avoid financial losses every month. The paper was losing money when we bought it, and it continued to do so. We must now come to terms with the fact that we do not have a path forward to sustainability.

And we thank those who have supported us.

Rebounding Looms Large as Dragons Defeat Golden Eagles

MSU Moorhead used a big spurt at the start of the fourth quarter, to knock off the Minnesota Crookston women by 10, 75-65. The win for the Dragons now muddies up the NSIC North, as there are three teams tied for fourth in the NSIC, including the Dragons, Golden Eagles and the Golden Eagles’ opponent for tomorrow, Northern State.

Larry James Froehlich, 76, of Bagley passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at his rural home surrounded by family. A memorial service celebrating Larry Froehlich’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston.

Sister Norma Jean Edie died on February 10, 2023, at Villa Saint Vincent, Crookston. Sister Norma Jean was born on September 10, 1933, in Saint Michael’s Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D., the fourth of five children of Albert M.

GENE “GENO” ALAN WHITEHEAD

Gene “Geno” Alan Whitehead, 61, of rural Red Lake Falls passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. Geno’s life will be celebrated at a 1 p.m. memorial service to be held Monday, February 27, 2023, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, with The Rev. Matthew Meyer officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
