Thanks to Minnesota Farmers Union for organizing Rural Voices discussion

Thank you to the Minnesota Farmers Union for organizing its Rural Voices discussion on April 11 in Crookston and six others around the state. And thank you to all who participated.

It’s important to me to be able to talk with Minnesotans, in person, about legislation such as Governor Mark Dayton’s proposed MinnesotaCare buy-in.

MinnesotaCare health insurance has been a trusted choice for nearly three decades for working people, including many in your part of the state, who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford traditional insurance. Expanding this proven program, which was created by a bipartisan group of policy makers, is the right thing to do at a time when an increasing percentage of Minnesotans do not have insurance.

MinnesotaCare would cost an estimated 28 percent less than the expected cost of commercial plans. But this isn’t free health insurance at taxpayers’ expense; enrollees’ premiums would pay for their coverage.

I encourage you to learn more about this important proposal. You can access a fact sheet here:

Many help to make Our Savior’s Lutheran School Celebration Sunday a success

Our Savior’s Lutheran School held their Celebration Sunday fundraiser on April 8. A fantastic group of families and staff organized and helped with the event.

The steering committee wishes to thank the many Crookston businesses that supported the event with cash donations as well as with baskets and other great items for the silent auction.

We are truly blessed to be a part of a community that is so generous and supportive! We were also grateful to receive many silent auction items from businesses in Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Fargo.

Celebration Sunday is a fantastic day of family fun. We are always so pleased to see the many cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends join in on the excitement of the day.
