Open Hearts Open Doors Fundraiser

Sister Justina Violette, the compassionate founder of Care & Share, began her mission in 1986 with a deep sense of empathy and an extraordinary ability to look beyond struggles to see the person in need. Her journey began humbly out the back door of the bishop’s residence, where she served as a cook. After 20 years of dedicated service to the less fortunate, Sister Justina was gifted a former Catholic school building by Father Krebs. The building, which had been standing since 1932, became the foundation where Care & Share truly took flight, providing much-needed support to the community.

Sister Justina passed away on September 12, 2001, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that continues to inspire. Over the years, Care & Share has grown in both scope and impact. Donations have increased, the building has been updated, and the outpouring of community support has remained unwavering. Yet, despite the continued success and growth, one critical need remains—cold storage.

The New Hope Food Shelf is experiencing record-breaking demand, and with that comes the urgent need for an upgraded walk-in fridge and freezer. The current units, though still functional, have required constant repairs and are approaching the end of their lifespan. Without these essential upgrades, the organization’s ability to store food safely and efficiently is at risk.

To address this urgent need, Care & Share will host its second annual fundraising event “Open Hearts Open Doors” on February 1st at the Crookston Inn. From Carolina Alfonso, Director, “We kindly ask for your support in helping us meet this need. Your contribution will make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families who are working hard to rebuild their lives and find stability. Every donation, no matter the size, will help us continue to serve with love, care, and compassion.”

The goal is to raise funds to purchase new walk-in fridge and freezer units for the food shelf, ensuring that Care & Share can continue to provide fresh, healthy food to the community for years to come. The support of the community has been integral to Care & Share’s success, and once again, the organization calls on the generosity of local residents to help it meet this critical need.

Tickets are available at American Federal Bank, the Care and Share, and from other Care & Share Board Members: Kari Brault, Angel Korynta, Anna Corona, Jon Street, Kyle Hunt, Stephen Larson, Mike Anderson, Kevin Thompson.

Your presence is greatly appreciated.
