Lou Ann B. Neil

Lou Ann B. Neil, age 87 of Climax, MN passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.

Lou Ann Burnette Neil was born on October 13, 1934 in Crookston, MN the daughter of Bernard and Helen (Larson) Meling. On July 23, 1952 she was united in marriage to Robert Neil at Sand Hill Lutheran Church.

Everybody knew Lou Ann. If you were lucky enough to sit next to her at an event or run into her at the grocery store, you'd get an earful about what she and her family were up to. Lou Ann loved people and was beloved for her friendly nature and generosity. You were always welcome at Lou Ann's table.

Lou Ann and Robert fostered a love of fishing and camping trips among their seven children, creating traditions the family still upholds today. She loved music, reading, sports, and baking; Lou Ann was famous for her caramel rolls and Special K bars and kept her fridges and freezers (plural) well-stocked for her grandchildren.

Lou Ann was a wife, mother, and grandmother, but she was also a school bus driver — a title that was extremely important to her, and one she held for more than 40 years, even sending a yearly letter to her "bus family." Lou Ann was active in the Climax community, serving as choir director at Sand Hill Lutheran Church, working at the Farmer's Union, and attending as many high school games as she could. She was also a devoted UND fan. Lou Ann truly enjoyed working at the Ralph Engelstad Arena during her retired years.

Family members who survive LouAnn include her children, Debbie (Darrell) Larson of Reynolds, ND, Kathy (Kendall) Nesvig of Buxton, ND, Scott Neil of Detroit Lakes, MN, Jeff (Jodi) Neil of Walker, MN, Lisa (Mike) Moen of Reynolds, ND and Brenda Brunolli of Reynolds, ND; son-in-law, Mike Sondrol of Lake Havasu, AZ; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Evenson of Climax, MN, Laurel Rude of Minot, ND and Michael Evenson of Fargo, ND;

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Neil on December 28, 1984, daughter, Cyndi Neil Sondrol and a brother Merlin Evenson.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Sand Hill Lutheran Cemetery Fund.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Sand Hill Lutheran Church, Rural Climax, MN.
