CHS sophomore is two points shy of advancing to final round

Crookston High School sophomore Victoria Proulx gained some valuable state experience in her first trip to the Minnesota State High School League State Speech Tournament, held over the weekend at Wayzata High School.

Proulx advanced from the Section 8A competition in the “Storytelling” category. At state, she took 13th out of 24 competitors in her category. After three preliminary rounds, CHS Speech Coach Phyllis Hagen explained, Proulx needed a score of 9 or less to advance to the final round, but she garnered a total of 11 and was eliminated from the competition.

“It was a wonderful experience competing with the best storytellers in the state,” Hagen said.

Hagen added that she and Proulx appreciate the school district’s extra efforts to get her to Wayzata despite last Thursday and Friday’s snow storm.
