Greetings from Crookston Public Schools and no, this is not a weather related announcement!

We have been working lately on a plan that was approved by the School Board regarding a makeup policy. As many of you know, the Governor does not have the statutory authority to allow districts to drop below the required 165 school days. The Governor has made every attempt to ensure that districts are not penalized for dropping below the 165 school days because legislative solution is currently being worked on at the state level. Crookston Public Schools’ plan is one that is based on not dropping below the 165 required days. We currently have 172 planned school days in our calendar.

The school board has agreed to allow five days without makeup, bringing the total minimum days allowed in our calendar to 167 days. For the next two years we have the following makeup policy in place: Storm Days 1-5 will not be made up, Storm Day 6 (President’s Day- if the storm day happens before President’s Day), Storm Day 7 (Easter Monday), Storm Days 8+ would necessitate days added to the end of the year. School Calendars for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 are available on the Crookston School District Website https://www.crookston.k12.mn.us/ under the District Information Tab.

Due to the shortage of bus drivers there are times when we need to have our transportation office staff driving, if there is ever a transportation related question and you cannot reach the bus garage, feel free to call the district office at 218-281-5313. While we are on the subject of weather, I would like to give a big thank you to our parents who live in the country and have worked with us to meet buses, drive students in, and communicate with us regarding roads that are not passable. We appreciate your help!

Architect Selection: The School Board has shortlisted the proposals for architectural services for a proposed bus garage to two firms: YHR Partners and ICON Architectural Group.  We will be conducting interviews and if these two firms are determined to not be the right fit, we will move to some of the other firms that turned in proposals. We would like to thank the many firms that submitted proposals as we had quite of few high quality proposals to choose from.
