On Jan. 24 at the Annual Meeting of the Humane Society of Polk County, Barry Stephens was elected as president of the board of directors. Stephens is employed as a lecturer of accounting at the University of Minnesota Crookston, where he has been for the past seven years. Stephens is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 40 years of management and accounting experience.

Stephens stated that he looks forward to the challenge. He also stated that the greatest needs of the Humane Society are litter for the cats, loving homes for both the cats and dogs, and help with repairs to the building and kennels. Currently, the Humane Society is at their limit for animals and is unable to accept additional animals until more are adopted.

Stephens would like to thank Mary Solberg and Carol Weber, past president of Humane Society, for their dedication and leadership, and he thanks the businesses and individuals whose donations and adoptions have added to the success of the organization.
