Members of the Crookston High School Speech Team participated in their first meet of the season on January 26 in Fergus Falls where they competed against students from 20 schools and 254 entries across 13 categories. The meet consisted of two preliminary rounds. The top eight finishers from their combined preliminary results then moved on to the final round (overall places 1-8) or the honor’s final (overall places 9-16).

     Here’s how they did: Victoria Proulx, Storytelling, 1st place finals medal, and Dramatic Interpretation, 7th place finals medal; Muira MacRae, Discussion, 3rd place finals medal; Sophia Rezac and Samantha Rezac, Duo Interpretation, 3rd place honors medal; Georgie French, Humorous Intepretation, 4th place honors medal; Zara Baig, Informative Speaking, 5th place honors medal; and, Linnea French, Informative Speaking, 7th place honors medal. In addition, Ben Brantner participated in Discussion and Emily Gillette participated in Original Oratory.

    The team has four new students this year:  Jocelyn Midboe, Elizabeth Helgeson, Ed Luckow and Isaac Wandrie, who will participate at the Speech Meet in DGF Feb. 7.

    The head coach is Phyllis Hagen, assisted by Colleen MacRae and Gaye Wick.
