The 36th annual Harvest of Knowledge Agri-Women’s Conference was held October 26 at the Ramada Inn, Grand Forks with 163 people in attendance.  The attendees ranged in age from 15 year old high school student to a 101 year old farmer.

Our keynote speaker for the day was Stephanie Goetz of Goetz Communication, delivering her “Women Empowerment” presentation.

Her heartfelt personal and professional life experiences were reflected in her presentation which emulated the message of empowering ourselves through communication by listening and opening ourselves up to others.

“Mercy Wheat – the Farmers’ Gift to Mankind” was the topic of Don Loeslie, farmer/historian from Warren, MN.  It was a history lesson on the effort by area farmers contribution to help rebuild war torn Europe after World War II.

The Beltrami County 4-H Science of Agriculture Research Team of Theresa Gustafson, Lily Krona, and Haley Mouser presented their Minnesota Extension STEM first place entry in research and curriculum design on promoting and understanding genetically modified organisms (GMOs), through youth education.  A very impressive presentation by these young ladies.

Sona Lesmeister of the Happiness Project did a demonstration of Tai Chi-Chih.  Sona went through the moves and benefits to the whole body.  Interesting and engaging by all.

Myth Bustin’ was about breaking all the false and misleading information about our food production that is out on social media and in the media itself.  Rachel Gray of Little Timber Farms was on hand representing animal agriculture and Bridgette Readel of Corteva Agriscience represented crop production.  They discussed the misinformation on different products such as the glyphosate in our cereals. It was a very interesting and informative session.

Communicating our knowledge of ag to the media and on social media was the topic of our last session by Stephanie Goetz. Stephanie gave tips on how to deal with the media and how to communicate our message using different types of media to the non-ag community.

Door prizes were handed out throughout the day.  Winner of the free night stay at the Ramada Inn, donated by the Ramada Inn, was Judy Deszingel of Kennedy, MN. The $200.00 cash prize from the Conference was won by Nicole Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN and the $200.00 Spa package donated by Bulter Machinery of Grand Forks, ND was won by Sylvia Daws of Grand Forks.
