Things get started Oct. 22

Clean-Up Week for fall trash pick-up will be held during the week of October 22 on your regular day of garbage pick-up.

Cleanup materials should be separated into the following piles: Garbage, clothing, cardboard, appliances, branches and yard waste, furniture, metal items, demolition materials, and tires. Separating these items into piles will help speed up the clean-up process.

Concrete, batteries, partially-full paint cans or other chemicals, and large amounts of demolition material will not be picked up. All items must be placed on the street boulevard on your regular garbage collection day.

In awareness of clean-up week, Polk County Public Health advises to not bring furniture, mattresses, box springs, or bed fames found on the street into your home in order to prevent the spread of bed bugs. http://www.bedbugs.umn.edu/

As required by state law, all video display devices such as TVs, computer monitors, etc. cannot be land filled. Therefore, these items will not be collected during clean-up. These devices may be disposed of at Polk County Environmental Services (Transfer Station.)

In conjunction with the Fall Clean-Up the city is declaring a “compost amnesty.” All yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings, and garden waste will be picked up and will not require a city compost bag. This amnesty will be in effect only for Fall Clean-Up. Branches must be cut in four foot lengths and bundled in order for the crew to take them away. Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length will be left for the owner to haul away. All smaller branches must be bundled, boxed, or bagged in order to be hauled away by the city crews.

If you have a car that is no longer in use and is stored outside, it may be to your advantage to get it removed. Improve the appearance of your property and neighborhood by making arrangements to have the car removed. This is a renewed effort to see that the standards of the city codes are complied with. To avoid any problems that may result from enforcing the standards, such as the city towing your vehicle at your expense, please participate in the Fall Clean-Up Week.

The city crews will only haul trash away the week of October 22 through October 26. The city will not extend this curbside trash pick-up after October 26.

Items should be placed on boulevards no more than 72 hours prior to your collection day.
