Note to readers: The 2019 United Way of Crookston fundraising campaign is underway. Wednesday’s throughout the campaign, the Times will feature a different United Way community partner agency profile. Featured today is the Care and Share.

Care and Share of Crookston, Inc. is a homeless shelter in Crookston. We house men, women and families with 3 dormitories, 14 individual rooms, and 6 rooms for women and families. Care and Share provides a safe and comfortable space as clients work towards housing and stability.

United Way of Crookston has been a wonderful help to Care and Share and the community. With United Way funding, Care and Share has served an average of 800 meals a month to residents of the shelter and community members.

Care and Share serves a continental breakfast from 8 to 8:30 a.m., lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m., and supper from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The lunch and supper meals consist of meat, vegetables, breads and desserts. Residents of Care and Share who are working are provided a packed lunch when they are unable to return to the shelter for meals.

We find that many people in the shelter are able to focus more on their goals when they are not concerned about where their next meal is coming from. Our soup kitchen is an important part of the success of our clients.
