The Crookston Kiwanis’ “Builders Club” (CHS Helping Hands) will be raising money for the Humane Society of Polk County in Crookston with a dog-walking event on Saturday, Oct. 20. Registration will take place at the HSPC beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the walking, running and/or racing will commence at 1 p.m. in front of the HSPC. KROX will announce if it needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Builders Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis organization and is designed to build skills in students in 7th and 8th grade.
Fisher’s Loop is the location of the dog-a-thon, and the path for larger animals is a 3.5 mile loop. For smaller dogs, or for people who really do not want to walk or run that far, there is a smaller loop of only three quarters of a mile. For dogs and people who don’t want to even go that far, there will be a 100-yard strip as well.
The cost to participate is a $5 suggested donation and there will be dog check points along the way to make sure your dog feels motivated to move to the next station.
Something new this year are the young walkers who would love to take your dog for a long walk. If you have extra dogs that want to get out as well there will be eager students wanting to give a helping hand. Again, this activity is to benefit the local animal shelter so come out and enjoy the afternoon with your four-legged pals.
There will be hot dogs, chips, and a beverage for $5 and there will be a snack station for the dogs.
Please make sure that the dogs that are brought to this event are well socialized with other animals and people. Organizers will reserve the right to turn dogs and people away if they dog appears dangerous.
Also provided at the event will be a map, doggy bags, doggy treats, and a number for everyone who wants a chance to win a door prize.
