It's an increase of $1.2M over 2018, final levy adoption in December

Polk County Board of Commissioners set their 2019 Preliminary Levy at 5.5 percent for 2019, which is an increase of $1.2 million over 2018.

The board’s decision sets the maximum levy amount at $23,042,894 for 2019, but budget work will continue through December to come up with a final levy.

Once established, the preliminary levy is used to calculate the maximum property tax levy payable for the following year and the commissioners may decrease but not increase the levy amount from the preliminary levy during the fall as they work to further refine the 2019 county budget in advance of adopting a final version before year’s end.
